Adéwalé was a prominent character in the Assassin's Creed universe, first introduced in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Born into slavery in Trinidad, he experienced brutal hardship from a young age.
He escaped slavery and became a quartermaster under the pirate captain Edward Kenway. During his time as a pirate, Adéwalé learned combat and navigation, honing his skills and becoming a formidable fighter.
Following his time with Kenway, Adéwalé joined the Assassin Brotherhood. He became a dedicated Assassin, fighting against Templar oppression and working to liberate enslaved people. This dedication stemmed from his personal experiences and deep empathy.
Adéwalé's story is further explored in the standalone DLC, Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry. This expansion focuses on his quest to liberate slaves in Saint-Domingue, showing him as a skilled leader and champion of freedom.
His weapon of choice was the blunderbuss, a powerful shotgun-like firearm, and a machete, reflecting his resourcefulness and Caribbean origins. Adéwalé ultimately sacrifices himself to protect the Assassin Mentor, Marius, in the novel Assassin's Creed: Brahman.
